Detox 2011 Success Stories!
We’ve done it! Survived 2 weeks of eating LOTS of fruits, veggies and green stuff. We ditched caffeine and sugar, bread and diet soda. And what do we have to show for it? Plenty. Here are the first of our success stories.
Slow & Steady Gets Great Results!
Meet Zan…in the first week and a half, she did everything right, followed the plan religiously and lost 0 pounds. That’s right, 0 pounds. And at the same time, her husband who was detoxing with her dropped 10 pounds in the first week. She noticed she was feeling better though and stuck it out. Her final results? She dropped 6.5 pounds and 1.5% body fat in just two weeks. Here’s what she has to say about her experience. Oh, and her husband dropped a total of 18 pounds in 2 weeks.
Carmen & Gloria
Sisters Succeeding Together!
Carmen and Gloria are sisters who decided to do the Detox 2011 plan together. There’s nothing like support from friends and family to see you through something like this. And they both had amazing results. Carmen lost 9 pounds, Gloria lost 13. And, Gloria even wishes she had the opportunity to be involved in something like this before she had gastric by-pass surgery a few years ago. I’m thrilled with their results (and so are they). Keep an eye on them. They’re both entered into our Your Best Body Spring Challenge and I won’t be surprised if they’re super-successful at that adventure, too.
Erica is our Your Best Body Holiday Challenge Winner. She just turned 20 and she has big…make that HUGE plans for her life, her health and her future. After winning the Holiday Challenge (she dropped 11 pounds and 5% body fat in just 8 weeks), she remained committed to her health and fitness. The Holiday Challenge kept her focused from Halloween til New Year’s and our Detox 2011 gave her mind and body the kickstart they needed to kick it up a notch in the new year! In just 14 days, she lost another 8 pounds and is at the lightest she’s been in over 3 years. Here’s her story:
Eating Clean & Loving It!
Shelley has been with AlaskaFit in our various programs for about a year now. She began with our personal training and Boot Camp programs at Providence Hospital. From there, she upgraded to our Body Balance Nutrition Challenge, continued with our Your Best Body Challenges and has now completed our Detox 2011 program. She’s changed her eating habits, gotten a much better understanding of what it means to “eat clean,” and is sharing her new passion for great food with her family.
Small Changes Lead to Big Awareness and a New Lifestyle!
Janet is new to AlaskaFit. A few of her friends joined us for Your Best Body Holiday Challenge and Janet is now enrolled in our Spring Challenge. To get ready, she jumped on the opportunity to do our Detox Plan as her first project with AlaskaFit. And she had tremendous success. Lots of little changes over the course of the past 14 days showed Janet just how unhealthily she was eating. She’s now made what she learned over the last two weeks a permanent part of her future. Down 10 pounds and still counting!
Tough Going, But She Survived…and Thrived!
Janet is another Your Best Body Challenger who is making real, lasting changes to her life. She dropped weight over the course of our Challenges and just completed our Detox 2011. She lost 5 pounds and introduced tons of new veggies and learned a whole new way to prepare meals.
Good morning Detoxers!
Just a few folks on the call last night, but it was still full of great information. To follow up on Saturday morning’s call, we got some great answers from the designers of the Detox Plan.
Q: What is the rationale behind some of what we’re eating? For example, the plan is almost exactly the same on days 5,6,7. Then changes slightly on day 8.
A: There is a specific methodology behind the timing of consumption of foods and design of the DETOX templates eating rotation. The templates have been refined based on results collected in a clinical weight loss setting.
Q.Why were we able to have one cup of rice on day 2 and none for the next 4 days?
A. Again…. same reason as above.
Q. Why do we have a day when we are to eat 1 leaf of spinach?
A. I know this is weird, … one leaf… goofy, I agree. It should really be a small batch of leafs.
Q. Why does the serving size for almonds vary between 21 and 23?
A. The DietMaster system is very picky and is trying to balance to specific nutrient requirements.
Q. How are we supposed to eat 2tbsp of flax seed?
A. This is flaxseed oil. It requires 2 tbl spoons. This is very common with diets where there are very little fats coming from foods. The body needs fats for a healthy digestive process.
Q. Why do we have eggs every morning?
A. The DETOX plan, specifically the Veggie and Fruit plan, offers very little protein, since little to no meats are used. Therefore, protein is essential, and eggs are the easiest to digest and provide a very high value in quality protein.
Q. I’ve also advised them to drink at least a gallon of water each day.
A. Perfect! They should also be taking a probiotic supplement.
A few comments on the info above. First, the number 1 answer is probably to the flax seed question. Flaxseed oil is easily added to your salad in the afternoon or evening or you can even just down a couple of tablespoons of it. It doesn’t taste great that way, but it’s definitely more user friendly than 2 tbsp. of actual seeds.
Adding a probiotic to your diet will keep the intestinal flora in great shape. It’s not too late to add it now. You can get probiotics at Natural Pantry or at Freddy’s or Carr’s in the organic section. Look in the refrigerated areas of the organic section. Of course, with advance notice or for future reference, I recommend Shaklee’s Opti-flora. It’s higher quality than anything you can purchase locally and they get released in the gut, where they are the most useful. Unfortunately, if you order right now, they won’t be here for about 10 days. If you are taking Shaklee Vitalizer though, you are already getting the probiotic as a part of the multi-vitamin strip.
I have also asked if we can get the RD who designed the program online for a webinar/phone call. Apparently, of the hundreds of people doing the plan, I am the first to ask this question. If we are able to schedule it, I will let you know. In the meantime, if you have additional questions, please post them below or send me an e-mail and I’ll get them answered.
I had a look at the men’s plan after being told that they get to eat fish on their plan, along with bananas, which we women don’t get. It’s true. While the plans are basically the same, the men get 1600 calories, so to fill in the 400 calories, they get 2 3-oz. servings of orange roughy in place of tofu or beans with their salads on a couple of days. Feel free to add 1 3-oz. serving of fish to your plan if you just can’t look at another bean or tofu cake. I’m not sure how easy orange roughy is to come by up here, so feel free to use halibut or salmon instead.
Spinach and broccoli are giving us roughage, iron, calcium. Asparagus has dieuretic effects. These are staples on any detox plan. The additional fruits and veggies are rounding out the nutrition that we need to have each day.
Just 4 days left:)
I am also adding a Monday morning weigh-in downtown between 7-9am. Find out exactly how much body fat and actual pounds you’ve lost over the last two weeks!
And, remember to send me either an e-mail or a video telling me how you did on the plan. The winner will receive $50 in gift cards to Allure Day Spa. A great treat after these last two weeks!
