Meet Mark Mathis. He started at AlaskaFit about 12 weeks ago and has already seen amazing success. He is down 20+ pounds, he down over 3% body fat and focused on the long term. Congratulations to everyone who participated in this year’s Little Black Dress Challenge. We had a lot of fun and even better, saw some amazing results. Here’s a quick summary of our overall stats for the Challenge. Keep in mind that this all happened in just 6 weeks!
- Total pounds lost: 76.5
- Total inches lost: 124.3
- Total decrease in body fat percentage: 16.7%
But the real question is, who won the $1,200 in prizes from AlaskaFit, Alaska Dinner Factory, COR Cosmetics, Posh Boutique, Sullivan’s Steakhouse and Terra Bella? I’ll get to that in a moment.
Before I do, I want to acknowledge the other prizes we gave out. If you aren’t familiar with our Little Black Dress Challenge, you need to know a few things. The winners were not determined solely by body changes. Here at AlaskaFit, we like to encourage good behavior. Each of the Challengers was trying to earn as many points as they could to win the big prize. They received points for doing things like: signing up for class online, attending class, turning in their food logs, and attending our weekly educational seminars. The more you did, the more points you got and, in the end, the best results = the winner.
Honorable mention went to Kim Williams. She lost 10.5 pounds overall (7.5 was body fat) she decreased her body fat percentage by 1.7 points and she lost an incredible 15.25 inches!
Third place went to Shawna Anderson. Shawna earned extra points by sharing AlaskaFit with her friends (she got our “most popular” award). Six of Shawn’s friends accompanied her to workouts. She also had some fantastic results. Shawna lost 10.5 pounds overall (6.5 was body fat), she lost 11.5 inches and dropped her body fat percentage just under 1 point.
Second place was claimed by Becki Alvey. Becki admits to being
extremely skeptical about our program when she started. She also swore she would never return following her first class. Thankfully, she changed her mind. She not only came back to class, she attended everything we offered and she never lost a single point during the entire challenge. What did she get for her efforts? Fantastic results. Becki lost 12.5 inches and 7 pounds and gained 2 pounds of muscle, for a total body composition change of 1.7%!
This brings me to our Grand Prize winner. Congratulations to Jennifer Dowling! Jennifer came in 2nd place in the 2012 Little Black Dress Challenge. She returned in 2013 determined to claim the title. And she did! Jennifer had the greatest body fat loss (8 pounds), greatest muscle mass gain (3 pounds) and the greatest change in body composition (down 3.8 points). She attended everything we did and only lost one point throughout the challenge for forgetting to sign in for a class.
For many of our Challengers, the Little Black Dress Challenge was just a start on their way to completely transforming their lives. They have signed up for longer-term commitments and are serious about getting results. The Challenge showed them how easy it can be.

Jane has a challenge that is unique to Alaska. She works on the north slope (And yes, we do have a slope-worker special, call 783-1241 to find out details. It’s so good that we don’t publish it on our website). That means she is in Anchorage for 2 weeks and she’s up north in Prudhoe Bay for 2 weeks…every month. That can be a challenge when you’re trying to establish a new routine.
But Jane did it! She is down 15 pounds of body fat, up one pound of muscle and her cholesterol has come down by over 40 points! Fantastic achievements! Here’s here story:

Wow! The best word to describe Rochelle Hart, one of our longest-running rock stars. Rochelle has been with us for over a year now and she is still rockin’ her results. She is down 50 pounds of body fat and has gone from a size 20 to a size 6. Shopping is her new favorite sport:)
